Our Programs
From weekly meditations to national peacebuilding gatherings, everything we offer is free and open to all — wherever you are, whatever your background.
Thursday Morning Meditations
Every Thursday · 7.30am · Free · Online
Every Thursday morning at 7.30am, we gather online for a free half-hour meditation — a calm, focused and empowering way to start the day. With gentle commentary, soothing music and a little quiet, these sessions are suitable for both experienced meditators and those new to the practice.
All are welcome.
The Calm Collective
Gathering in times of crisis and need · Free · Online
Launched in 2021 during lockdown by Justin Langer AM, the Calm Collective brings together meditators, faith communities and well-wishers from all backgrounds to hold a collective intention in silence for 10 minutes.
The Calm Collective gathers at times of national and international crisis. It is currently meeting every Sunday evening, 9.00pm - 9.10pm, AEST, from March through May 2026, holding a collective intention for peace in the Middle East and around the world.
Past vigils have been held for the earthquake in Türkiye, the war in Ukraine, and for the victims of the Bondi attack.
All are invited to join these mindful and hearftful gatherings.
100 Days of Peace 2026
June 13th - September, 21st, 2026
100 Days of Peace is our flagship initiative - a national contemplative initiative inviting people from all walks of life to pause each evening in shared silence.
Beginning June 13 — the 100-day countdown to UN International Day of Peace — and culminating September 21, participants join a simple daily practice of reflection, connection and collective intention. No registration and no barriers to participation — just a shared moment of stillness.
Each evening at 9.00pm AEST, a short contemplative contribution from a community, faith, civic or cultural leader is followed by 10 minutes of silent meditation held collectively.
Building on the success of the 2024 series, which brought together a growing community of participants across Australia, the 2026 initiative expands this collective experience through daily contributions that offer reflection, hope and a deeper sense of connection.
Your participation is most valuable.
UN Peace Day Events
2015 —
Calm in the City has been facilitating meditative public events to mark the United Nations International Day of Peace on September 21 since 2015 — evolving from landmark gatherings at Deakin Edge, Federation Square, to online events that now reach participants across Australia and beyond.
From 2015 to 2017, the Wake Up for Peace events at Federation Square brought together prominent Australians from faith, academic, civic, business, arts and community life for a shared morning meditation for peace.
This work has also included Stop Still for Peace — a community initiative inviting people to pause in intentional stillness on the Day of Peace. Supported by the Reflections on Peace series and accompanying resources, it encourages mindful reflection for peace — for ourselves, for others, and for the world.
Past participants at our online events have included former Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp and former Governor of Victoria, the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, alongside faith leaders, academics, artists and community leaders from across Australian society.
Meditation and Peacebuilding Forums
2023 —
Since 2023, Calm in the City with the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture have led the organisation of a series of three Meditation and Peacebuilding Forums — bringing together prominent Australians from faith, academic, civic and community life for shared silent meditation followed by dialogue and practical peacebuilding conversations:
Forum I — Meditation and Peacebuilding: Learnings and Opportunities (June 2023, Trinity College, University of Melbourne)
Forum II — Inner Peace, Outer Peace (March 2024, Trinity College, University of Melbourne)
Forum III — Contemplation, Compassion and Our Common Humanity (April 2025, Queens Hall, Victorian State Parliament)
These forums have been organised through partnerships with various organisations; Meditation Australia (Forum I and II), M3CS at Monash University (Forum I and III), Trinity College, University of Melbourne (Forum I and II); and the Multicultural Commission of the Victorian Government (Forum III).
Presenters at the Forums have included Bishop Philip Huggins, Professor Craig Hassed, Sister Jayanti and recent Forum III at State Parliament was opened by the Governor of Victoria Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC with facilitation by Jon Faine AM.
These forums have played an important role in shaping a growing peacebuilding movement in Australia — recognising meditation and contemplative practice as a foundation for meaningful dialogue, understanding and social cohesion.
‘Calm Inspirations’ and ‘Calm and Resilient’ Series
Free listening, anytime
During the long lockdown periods of 2020 and 2021 (in Melbourne), Calm in the City created two separate 40-day series of free daily 5-minute guided meditations — Calm Inspirations and Calm and Resilient — offered in real time to support individuals across Australia through those extraordinarily difficult times.
Each day, experienced practitioners of meditation contributed a short guided practice — with contributions from Dr Tami Roos, Bishop Philip Huggins, Dr Ian Gawler OAM and Dr Ruth Gawler, Victor Perton, Dr Elise Bialylew and many others.
These series remain freely available for anyone who needs them.
